Alright, let’s talk about this thing, the… uh… Auralic Aries S1, yeah, that’s it. My grandson, he got one, looks fancy, like a little silver box. He keeps fiddlin’ with it, says it makes the music sound better. I don’t know, sounds the same to me, but he’s a smart fella, so maybe it does somethin’.
Now, this here box, it ain’t big. My grandson says it’s about, hold on, let me get this right… he said somethin’ like 8 inches wide, 11 inches deep, and 3 inches tall. That’s 20.7cm x 29cm x 8.5cm in them fancy measurements. See, I remember! It’s kinda small, fits right on his shelf next to all them other gizmos he’s got.
He told me it’s a streamer, whatever that means. Says it takes music from the internet and sends it to somethin’ else, a DAC he calls it. I guess that DAC thingy is important, ’cause he said this Aries box don’t work without it. Like a tractor needs a plow, you know? One ain’t good without the other. It’s a whole checklist he’s got, making sure everything’s hooked up right. Young folks and their gadgets, I tell ya.
This Aries thing, it ain’t got no buttons, not really. Just a little screen and a knob you turn. My grandson, he uses his phone to control it, tappin’ and swipin’ away. He says it uses somethin’ called Lightning DS, some special program. Sounds complicated to me. But he also says it works with other things, like AirPlay and Spotify, stuff the kids use these days. So, I guess it’s easy enough for them.
He also talks about it havin’ some kinda sound magic inside. Something about “optimizing the audio signal” he says. Fancy words, right? He mentioned a resampler and an equalizer, says it makes the music clearer. I listened, and it sounded fine, but like I said, I don’t hear much difference. Maybe my ears are just old.
Now, they got other boxes too, from this Auralic company. My grandson was tellin’ me about ‘em. Some are bigger, some do different things. There’s this Vega thing, he says it’s got the DAC built-in. So, it’s like two-in-one, I guess. But this Aries, it’s just the streamer part. You gotta have that other box, the DAC, to make it work.

This little silver box, it seems pretty important to my grandson. He’s always fussin’ over it, makin’ sure it’s workin’ just right. He says it makes the music sound better, and that’s good enough for him. Me? I’m happy with my old radio. But hey, if it makes him happy, then that’s all that matters.
This Auralic company, they seem to be all about the “pure sound.” That’s what my grandson read somewhere. They make a whole bunch of stuff, all for makin’ the music sound good, I guess. It’s a whole different world than the one I grew up in, that’s for sure. We had a record player, and that was it. Now you got these little boxes streamin’ music from the sky, it seems like.
The Aries S1, it connects to the internet with a wire, my grandson says that’s the best way. Something about it bein’ more stable. He showed me this picture of it online, and it said that the dimensions of the bigger version is about 12.9 inches wide, 2.5 inches high, and 9 inches deep or 330mm by 65mm by 230mm. That’s a big one! I guess it just depends on what you want. But my grandson’s one is small, the first one I was talkin’ about.
So, yeah, that’s the lowdown on this Auralic Aries S1 thing. It’s a small box, makes music sound better accordin’ to my grandson, connects to the internet, and needs another box to work. And it’s about 8 inches wide, 11 inches deep, and 3 inches tall. Did I get that right? I think so. Now, where’s my tea…?
