Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this “spirit of divination” thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I started out pretty skeptical, not really believing in all that fortune-telling stuff. But, I figured, why not give it a shot?
I started by reading up on it. All the stuff I found was pretty much the same. It’s all about trying to see the future or find out secret information, sometimes by reading signs or getting help from supernatural powers. And let me tell you, the Bible is not a fan. There are verses in Leviticus and other places that straight-up say it’s a no-go. One verse even says that people who practice divination should be, um, “pelted with stones.” Yikes!
But I was curious, so I kept digging. I found out that “divination” is a general word for lots of different ways to supposedly talk to the supernatural. Like, an “omen” is a sign sent by a god, and an “oracle” is an answer to a question. I even stumbled upon this story about a slave girl in Philippi who had a “spirit of divination” and made a lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. That’s in the Book of Acts, by the way. Then Paul, you know, the apostle, he casts out the spirit in the name of Jesus.
So, I decided to try some simple stuff, nothing too crazy. I started with reading tea leaves. I’d brew a cup of tea, drink it, and then try to see shapes in the leaves left at the bottom of the cup. It was kind of fun, like looking at clouds and trying to see animals or faces. But I can’t say it really told me anything about the future.
- Tried tea leaves, looked for shapes, didn’t really see anything that seemed like a prediction.
Next, I tried using a pendulum. It’s basically a weight on a string that you hold over your hand or a chart. I got a crystal pendulum and tried to ask simple yes/no questions. You hold it steady and ask a question, and supposedly the way it swings tells you the answer. I’d ask things like, “Will it rain tomorrow?” or “Will I get a good night’s sleep?” Most of the time, it just swung back and forth, not really giving a clear answer. There was one time I asked if it will rain and it swung, then it rained. I got chills at that moment.
- Got a pendulum, asked yes/no questions, mostly got unclear answers.
- One time the pendulum worked and I got chills.
I also dabbled in reading Tarot cards. I got a deck of Tarot cards and started doing simple three-card spreads, you know, past, present, future. It was interesting, but I mostly just saw it as a way to think about my life from a different perspective. The cards would show symbols and pictures, and I’d try to relate them to my own experiences. It was more like self-reflection than fortune-telling, to be honest.

- Got Tarot cards, did three-card spreads, used it more for self-reflection.
My Conclusion
After all this experimenting, I’ve come to the conclusion that divination is… well, it’s complicated. I don’t think I have any special powers to see the future, and I definitely haven’t been talking to any spirits. But it was a fun way to explore my own thoughts and feelings. And I can see why people are drawn to it, especially when they’re looking for answers or guidance in life. My final thought, do it for fun but do not take it seriously, and if you want to find answers, look into yourself first.
I’m still not sure what to make of that whole “spirit of divination” thing from the Bible. It seems like there might be more to the spiritual world than we can see, but I’m not going to go around claiming I can talk to ghosts or anything. For now, I’m just going to keep an open mind and enjoy the mystery. And maybe try reading palms next, just for kicks.
