Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get this done for a while, and today I finally dove in. I wanted to sort out a proper timeline for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” you know, the seventh book and the last movie. Sounds simple enough, right? Turns out, it was a bit of a rabbit hole, but a fun one!
I started by grabbing my copy of “Deathly Hallows.” I figured the best way to do this was to just reread the whole thing and take notes, and make some simple notes of the key events. I gotta say, getting lost in the story again was pretty awesome. It’s such a well-crafted world. Anyway, I jotted down everything that seemed important, like when they left Privet Drive, when they found the first Horcrux, all the way up to the big battle at Hogwarts. And also, I try to note the time and the date it happened.
Next, I wanted to see what other Potterheads had done. I hit up a few fan sites and forums, and you know, I tried to find if there are any details or timelines I didn’t notice before. There’s a bunch of timelines out there, but they weren’t exactly what I was looking for. Some were super detailed, others not so much. But browsing through them gave me a few more things to add to my own list, especially with dates and stuff that I might’ve missed. Some fans mentioned the “Fantastic Beasts” and “The Cursed Child”, I think it’s worth noting since it extended the timeline of the whole Harry Potter universe.
- Leaving Privet Drive: This had to be the starting point. I marked the date and time as accurately as I could based on the book’s descriptions.
- Key Events: I made sure to note every major event, like the break-in at Gringotts and the various encounters with Death Eaters.
- Horcrux Hunting: Each Horcrux discovery was a milestone. I highlighted these and tried to figure out the timeline between each find.
- The Final Battle: This was the big one. I broke it down into smaller parts, like when Harry revealed himself to be alive and the final duel with Voldemort.
After gathering all this info, I started putting it together. I used a simple chronological order, starting from when Harry left the Dursleys’ to the very end. I typed it all out, trying to be as clear as possible. I also added little notes next to some events, just to explain why they were important or to add some context.
Some thoughts on the timeline
Doing this made me realize how much happens in just under a year. It’s intense! Plus, seeing it all laid out like this really highlights how well thought out the whole story is.
Finally, I think this timeline could be pretty useful for anyone who’s writing fanfiction or just wants to understand the sequence of events better. It was definitely useful for me. And honestly, it was just a great excuse to dive back into the world of Harry Potter. If any of you guys decide to do something similar, I’d love to see what you come up with. It’s always cool to see different perspectives on this stuff. That’s pretty much it, hope you guys find this interesting!
