Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something I’ve been thinking about for a while – figuring out how much different metals cost per pound. You know, like when you see those guys on TV digging for gold and they talk about the price per ounce? Well, I wanted to do something similar but a bit more down to earth, with metals we see every day.
First thing I did was hit up the internet to see what I could find. I searched for “metal prices per pound,” and wow, there’s a ton of information out there! I found a bunch of websites that track this stuff, showing the prices of things like copper, steel, aluminum, and brass. Some even had these cool tables that updated with the latest prices. I thought, “This is exactly what I need!”
So, I started playing around with these tables. You could pick your currency, like USD or GBP, and it would spit out the prices. For example, I saw that copper was going for a few bucks a pound. That got me thinking about all the copper wiring in my house. Made me wonder how much it was all worth!
I spent a good chunk of the morning just messing with these tables, seeing how the prices changed over the past month. It was pretty interesting to see the ups and downs. Like, one day aluminum would be up, and the next it would be down. I guess it’s kind of like the stock market, but for metals.
My little experiment
Then, I got this idea to try and make my own little table. Nothing fancy, just something to keep track of the prices I was seeing. I grabbed a pen and paper – yeah, I’m old school like that – and started jotting down the prices for a few different metals. Here’s what I ended up with:
- Copper: Around $3 per pound
- Steel: Seemed to be less than a dollar per pound
- Aluminum: A bit over a dollar per pound
- Brass: Somewhere between copper and steel, maybe $2 per pound
It wasn’t anything super accurate, but it gave me a rough idea of what these metals were worth. I even went around my place, looking at different things and trying to guess how much metal was in them. Like, my old bike in the garage – how many pounds of steel is that? Or the aluminum cans in the recycling bin – how much are those worth?

Honestly, this whole thing was way more fun than I expected. It made me look at everyday objects in a whole new way. I mean, who knew that a simple search for “metal prices per pound” could lead to such an interesting morning? I think I’ll keep an eye on these prices and maybe even expand my little table. It’s kind of cool to have this little window into the world of metal prices, right from my living room.
This morning project was a good reminder that there is so much to learn, even with simple stuff. I felt like a kid again, exploring and figuring things out. Def a fun way to kill some time!
