Okay, so, a few days ago, I was thinking about switching the wheels on my Tesla Model Y. The stock ones are fine, they’re the 19-inch Geminis. They get the job done, you know? But I saw these 20-inch Induction wheels and, man, they look sharp. I mean, they really give the car a sportier vibe. But were they really worth the extra cash?
So I started digging around. I looked at a bunch of different sources and found out a few things. The Geminis, being smaller, they’re supposed to give you a smoother ride. They got these thicker tire sidewalls that just soak up the bumps. The Inductions, on the other hand, with those bigger rims, you’re going to feel the road a bit more. Smaller sidewalls, so it’s a bit of a trade-off, you see.
I started with a test drive, first with the Geminis and then swapped them out for the Inductions. It was interesting. The Geminis were definitely comfy. Like, gliding over the rough patches on my usual route. Then with the Inductions, yeah, I could feel more of the road. Not bad, just… different. I mean, that sporty look does come at a small cost to ride comfort.
Then I started to check the range. See, I heard that smaller wheels can actually give you better range because they are more efficient. So, I did a few runs on the same route with both sets of wheels. And guess what? The Geminis did give me a bit of extra range. Not a ton, but noticeable. It wasn’t a huge difference, but over time, it could add up.
My Test Drive Notes
- Gemini Wheels:
- Felt super smooth, especially on rough roads.
- Seemed to get a bit more range.
- Looked okay, but not as cool as the Inductions.
- Induction Wheels:
- Ride was a bit firmer, felt the road more.
- Range took a slight dip.
- Looked amazing, really changed the look of the car.
After all that, I decided to stick with the Geminis. Yeah, the Inductions look awesome, but I’m all about that smooth ride and the extra bit of range. Plus, the Geminis didn’t cost me anything extra. They came with the car! So I saved some money there. And if I’m being honest, I drive in some pretty snowy areas sometimes, and I heard the smaller wheels are better for that, too.
So yeah, that’s my little experiment with Tesla wheels. Hope this helps someone out there who’s also thinking about swapping their wheels!
