So, I’ve been messing around with AI art lately, and it’s been a wild ride. Today, I decided to try and create something specific: an “aquarius mermaid.” I’ve always been drawn to the imagery of Aquarius, you know, the water bearer, and I figured merging that with a mermaid would be pretty cool.
I started by firing up my go-to AI art generator. I won’t name names, but it’s one of the popular ones. My first attempt? Well, let’s just say it was… interesting. I simply typed in “aquarius mermaid” and hit go.
- The result was a scaly, vaguely humanoid figure with a fish tail, holding a giant, overflowing bucket of water. It looked more like a confused fish-monster than a graceful mermaid.
Okay, back to the drawing board. I realized I needed to be more specific. I added some descriptive words: “beautiful,” “ethereal,” “flowing hair,” “blue and silver scales.” I also specified that I wanted a “celestial” background, thinking of stars and galaxies.
The second try was better. This time, I got a mermaid with long, flowing blue hair and shimmering scales. The background was definitely more space-y, but the mermaid’s face was… off. She looked like she’d just smelled something really bad.
I spent the next hour or so tweaking the prompt. I tried different combinations of words: “glowing,” “mystical,” “serene,” “underwater,” even “wearing a crown of stars.” I played with the art style settings, going from “photorealistic” to “dreamlike” and everything in between.
Slowly, things started to come together. I learned that adding the word “iridescent” helped a lot with the scales. And “gentle smile” definitely improved the facial expression. The background was still tricky, but I eventually settled on a mix of “nebula” and “coral reef” to get a blend of space and ocean.

Finally, after countless iterations, I got something I was happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but it captured the essence of what I was going for: a beautiful, ethereal mermaid with flowing blue hair and iridescent scales, set against a backdrop of stars and swirling water. She looked serene and powerful, like a true goddess of the sea and sky.
What did I get from this practice?
It’s awesome practice and a bit of * may take many times to get the results you want, but in the end, you will be satisfied with the results. I’ll continue to try.
