Well, let me tell you somethin’ ’bout this fella, Aries Merritt. Folks been makin’ a fuss about him, seems like. They put his shoes, you know, them pointy things he wears for runnin’, in a museum! Can you believe that? Spikes, they call ’em. In a museum!
Now, I don’t know much ’bout runnin’. We chased chickens back on the farm, that’s ’bout the fastest runnin’ I ever did. But this Aries fella, he’s somethin’ special, they say. He runs over them little fences, faster than a greased pig on a hot day, I reckon. 110 meter hurdles, they call it. Sounds fancy.
He’s got a record, you see. The fastest anyone’s ever done it. 12.80 somethin’. That’s faster than a blink of an eye. Folks remember that kinda thing. They write it down and put it in books. And now they put his shoes in a museum! He musta been real good at runnin’ over them fences.
- He won somethin’ called the Olympics. That’s a big deal, I hear. Way bigger than the county fair.
- They talk about him bein’ a champion. Like he’s the king of runnin’ over them fences.
- He even had some trouble, somethin’ ’bout his body not workin’ right for a while. But he came back, tough as an old boot.
They got this thing called the IAAF Heritage World Athletics. Sounds like a big fancy club for folks who are good at runnin’ and jumpin’ and throwin’ things. And they wanted this Aries fella’s shoes. Said he’s a star, you know, like them shiny things you see in the sky at night.
He had a coach, some fella named Andreas Behm. Helped him get fast I guess. They had to meet in a grass field for a while. Couldn’t go to their regular runnin’ place I reckon. Probably cause of somethin’ or other.
This Aries fella, he’s been through a lot, seems like. Injuries and such. But he kept on runnin’. That’s somethin’ to admire, I suppose. Like that old mule we had back home, kept on plowin’ even when he was tired.

He’s from a place called Marietta. They remember him from when he was just a young fella, runnin’ in high school. Bet he was fast even then. Some folks are just born to run, I guess.
They call him the fastest man ever over them sprint hurdles. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? The fastest ever. And now his shoes are in a museum. Imagine that. My old work boots ain’t never gonna be in no museum, that’s for sure. But then again, I never ran over no fences, not on purpose anyway.
This Aries Merritt fella, born in 1985, he’s an American, you know, like those folks over in the city. He’s made a name for himself runnin’ them 110 meter hurdles. He’s good at it. Real good. Good enough to get his shoes in a museum.
He even talks about makin’ new kinds of runnin’ over fence races. Like runnin’ further and with more fences. He’s got ideas, that fella. Always thinkin’, I guess. Me, I just think about gettin’ supper on the table and keepin’ the chickens outta the garden.
So, there you have it. Aries Merritt, the fella with the fast shoes in the museum. He’s a runner, a champion, and now a part of history, I guess. Just like them old pots and pans they got in museums. Cept his is pointy and helps you run fast over fences.
Makes you think, don’t it? All that runnin’ and jumpin’ and now he’s in a museum. Well, his shoes are anyway. It’s a funny old world, ain’t it?
