Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with understanding birth charts a little better. I’ve always been kind of curious about astrology, but it can get really confusing. I decided to use my own chart as a starting point, focusing on the “big three”: Sun, Moon, and Rising signs. Mine are Aries Sun, Capricorn Moon, and Cancer Rising. Let’s see what happened.
Digging into My “Big Three”
First, I pulled up my birth chart. You need your birth date, time, and location for this. You can find it in a lot of websites and apps. I already knew mine, but I double-checked to be sure. I had the correct information!
Then I started researching each placement individually. I already had some basic knowledge, that Aries is all fire and energy, Capricorn is all about structure, and Cancer is super emotional. I need to research each of those, and make sure i have a basic idea about them.
- Aries Sun: I started reading about Aries Sun. I found some interesting insights about this placement. Things about being assertive, independent, and loving a good challenge. It’s supposed to be a very “leader” type of energy. I don’t know how many website i visited today, but I felt that!
- Capricorn Moon: Next, the Capricorn Moon. This one felt…different. The descriptions talked about being reserved, disciplined, and maybe even a little pessimistic. It’s about long-term goals and being practical. This part was a little harder to relate to immediately. I’m not really sure I connect with the “pessimistic” part, but I definitely see the ambition aspect in my life.
- Cancer Rising: Finally, I looked into Cancer Rising. This is about how you come across to others, your first impression. The articles talked about being nurturing, sensitive, and maybe a little shy at first. People might see me as approachable and caring, even if I’m feeling fiery Aries energy inside. It’s like a soft, protective shell.
Putting the Pieces Together
The really interesting part started when I tried to see how these three placements interact. It felt like having three different parts of me pulling in different directions.
I started journaling about it.
I began writing down some real-life examples. Like, how I might jump into a new project with Aries enthusiasm (Sun), but then get bogged down in the details and planning because of my Capricorn Moon. Or how I might come across as gentle and caring (Cancer Rising), even when I’m feeling frustrated or impatient inside.

I visualized it.
It helped to imagine these three signs as characters in a play. The Aries is the bold hero, the Capricorn is the wise advisor, and the Cancer is the gentle diplomat. They all have different roles, but they’re on the same team.
I reflected on past experiences.
I thought about times I felt particularly energized, times I felt super responsible, and times I felt really sensitive to others’ emotions. I started to see patterns in how these different energies show up in my life.
What I Realized
This whole process was way more insightful than I expected. It wasn’t about predicting the future or anything like that. It was more about understanding myself better – my motivations, my reactions, and how I interact with the world. I learned a lot by doing that

It’s like I have this internal fire (Aries), a need for structure and achievement (Capricorn), and a deeply caring, intuitive side (Cancer). And it’s all me! It’s not always a smooth blend, sometimes these energies clash, but understanding them helps me navigate those internal conflicts a little better.
I’m definitely going to keep exploring this. Maybe I’ll look into the other planets in my chart next. It’s a fun way to do some self-reflection, and honestly, it’s kind of comforting to see these different aspects of myself reflected in the stars. But for now, I have learned the basics.
