Alright, listen up, y’all. Let me tell ya ’bout this Constellation Stage and Screen thing. Sounds fancy, huh? Don’t you worry, I’ll make it plain as day.
So, these folks, they got this place, Constellation Stage and Screen. They do plays and movies, the kind that make ya laugh, cry, and maybe even think a little. They say it’s “world-class,” whatever that means. I reckon it just means it’s good, real good. They put on a whole bunch of shows, for grown-ups and for the little tykes too.
Now, they got somethin’ called “Mainstage shows,” five of ’em they say. And then there’s these “Constellation for Kids” shows, two of them. That’s a lot of shows, if ya ask me. They say these shows will “transport you everywhere.” I ain’t never been transported nowhere but the grocery store and back, but I guess it means the stories are good enough to make ya forget you’re just sittin’ in a chair. They make ya feel like you’re right there in the story, y’know? Like you’re sailin’ on the ocean or fightin’ dragons or whatever they’re doin’ up on that stage.
- Mainstage shows: Five of ’em, for the grown-ups.
- Constellation for Kids: Two shows, for the little ones.
This whole thing started not too long ago, in 2022. Three different groups came together – Bloomington Playwright’s Project, Cardinal Stage, and Pigasus Institute. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? Anyways, they joined up to make this Constellation thing happen. I guess they figured they could do more together than they could apart. Like a quilt, ya see? Lots of little pieces, but they make somethin’ warm and beautiful when ya put ’em all together.
And get this, they even had this contest thing, a “Mamma Mia-inspired girls weekend getaway.” I ain’t sure what Mamma Mia is, some kinda singin’ and dancin’ movie, I think. But this contest, it sounded like fun. They had a “Sing-Along Screening” of it. Imagine that, a whole bunch of folks singin’ together in a big room. Sounds like a hoot!
Constellation Stage and Screen, they ain’t just about puttin’ on shows, though. They also teach folks about arts, about actin’ and makin’ movies. That’s what they call “arts education.” I reckon it’s important, teachin’ the young’uns how to tell stories and express themselves. It’s like teachin’ ‘em how to plant seeds, so somethin’ beautiful can grow.

So, that’s the long and short of it. Constellation Stage and Screen is a place where they put on plays and movies, teach folks about the arts, and bring people together. They got shows for everyone, young and old. And they seem to be doin’ a pretty good job of it, if you ask me. It’s a place where ya can go to escape for a little while, to laugh, to cry, and to be entertained. And ain’t that what we all need sometimes? A little bit of magic in our lives.
They mix theater and film together, which is kinda neat. It’s like mixing corn and beans in the garden, you get somethin’ good that way. They call it a “visionary blend,” which just means they got a good idea and they’re makin’ it happen.
If you get a chance, go check it out. Support your local arts, I say. It’s good for the soul, like a warm cup of coffee on a cold mornin’. And who knows, you might even learn somethin’ new, or at least have a good time. And that’s worth more than a pocketful of gold, if you ask me.
They’re all about connecting people through these stories, see? Makin’ us feel like we’re part of somethin’ bigger. And in this day and age, that’s a good thing, a real good thing. We all need a little connectin’ now and then.
So there ya have it. Constellation Stage and Screen. Remember the name. They’re doin’ good work, bringin’ stories to life and bringin’ people together. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter who ya are or where ya come from.
