So, I wanted to make a Scorpio zodiac keychain, ’cause, you know, Scorpios are cool and all.
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I got some polymer clay in different colors – black for the base, and some shiny gold for the details. I also grabbed some keychain rings, an eye pin, and some basic tools like a roller, a knife, and a needle tool.
I started by conditioning the black clay. Basically, I just kneaded it until it was soft and easy to work with. Then, I rolled it out into a flat sheet, about a quarter-inch thick. I used a round cookie cutter to cut out a circle for the base of the keychain.
Making the Scorpion
Next, I took some more black clay and shaped it into a long, thin snake. I bent it into an S-shape to form the scorpion’s body. Then, I made two smaller snakes and attached them to the front for the claws. I used the needle tool to add some texture to the claws, making them look a bit more realistic. Okay, maybe not “realistic”, but you know what I mean.
- Formed the scorpion’s tail by rolling out another thin snake of clay.
- Curved it upwards and used the needle tool to make a pointy stinger at the end.
- Attached the tail to the back of the scorpion’s body.
Adding the Details
I took some of the gold clay and rolled it out into tiny, thin snakes. I carefully placed these on the scorpion’s back to create the constellation pattern. It’s just a few dots and lines, but it makes a big difference. I also used the gold clay to make a small M-shape, which is the symbol for Scorpio, and stuck it on the base.
Baking and Finishing
Once I was happy with how it looked, I carefully inserted the eye pin into the top of the clay circle. Then, it was time to bake it! I followed the instructions on the clay package and baked it in the oven for about 30 minutes. The most important part is to follow the baking instructions of the polymer clay. Because I forgot the last time, and they all melted down. Then I have to start from scratch.

After it cooled down, I attached the keychain ring to the eye pin. And that’s it! My very own Scorpio zodiac keychain. It was a fun little project, and I think it turned out pretty neat.
It’s not perfect, but I made it myself, and that’s what counts. Maybe I’ll try making keychains for the other zodiac signs, too. We’ll see.
