Okay, so the other day I got this kinda weird idea. I’ve always been fascinated by, like, fortune-telling and stuff, you know? And I love cats. So, I thought, “Why not combine the two?” I decided to try and build my own “divination cat” thing. Sounds crazy, right? But I was bored, so whatever.
The Idea
I did a bit of digging, just to see if anyone else had ever tried anything like this, and stumbled upon this word, “Ailuromancy.” Apparently, it’s an ancient Greek thing where people used to watch how cats moved to, like, predict the weather and stuff. I’m not gonna lie, that sounded pretty cool, so I figured I’d give it a modern spin.
Getting Started – The Setup
First, I needed, well, a cat. Luckily, I have my fluffy buddy, Mittens. She’s pretty chill, so I figured she wouldn’t totally freak out.
Then, I cleared out a space in my living room. I just move some furiture and creat a clear space on floor.
I put down a few different objects – a toy mouse, a ball of yarn, a crumpled piece of paper, and a little catnip-filled pillow. My idea was that whatever she went to first would, like, “mean” something.

The “Ritual” (aka Playtime)
Okay, so this is where it got a little silly. I tried to make it all, like, mystical. I dimmed the lights a little, and I even put on some ambient music – you know, the kind with whale sounds and stuff. I brought Mittens into the room and put on ground. I gently placed her in the center of the cleared space, right in front of the objects.
Then, I just… waited. I tried to keep a straight face, like this was all super serious, but honestly, it was hard not to laugh. Mittens just looked at me for a second, probably wondering what the heck I was up to.
Then after a few minutes staring at me, she choose one.
The “Interpretation”
- Toy Mouse:She went straight for the toy mouse first! I decided this meant I was going to have good luck with, like, “hunting down” opportunities. Maybe a new project or something?
- Ball of Yarn: If she had chosen this, I’d guess that mean that I’m going have a good time with my friends, maybe a wonderful party.
- Crumped Paper: If she’d gone for the paper, I guess that would have meant, like, some kind of unexpected news or a surprise.
- Catnip Pillow:And the catnip pillow? That would have been pure relaxation and good vibes, I figured.
The Results (So Far…)
Honestly, it’s only been a couple of days since my little “divination cat” experiment. Nothing super dramatic has happened yet. So it’s hard to say if it “worked” or not. But, you know what? It was fun! It gave me a good laugh, and Mittens got some extra playtime. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, just to see what happens. Who knows, maybe my cat really is psychic.
