Oh boy, I’ve been on a crafting kick lately, and let me tell you, I finally tackled a project I’ve been eyeing for ages – making a TMNT Leo plush! I’m not a sewing expert or anything, but I do love a good DIY challenge.
I started by gathering my materials. This took a bit of running around, because I needed specific shades of green and blue fabrics. I found some nice, soft green material at one store, and then I hunted down the perfect blue for Leo’s mask at another store.
Here’s a rough list of what I used:
- Green fabric (for the body)
- Blue fabric (for the mask)
- Stuffing (lots of it!)
- Black and white felt (for the eyes)
- Needle and thread (of course!)
- Scissors
- A marker
Finding a Pattern Was a Little Tricky
Next up was finding a pattern. I searched high and low and eventually found a basic pattern, which I decided to use for the plush toy. It wasn’t a perfect match for Leo, but it gave me a good starting point.
Then came the fun part – cutting out the fabric! I traced the pattern onto my green fabric and carefully cut out all the pieces. It felt like I was performing surgery, but with fabric instead of, well, you know.
Sewing everything together took some time and patience. I used my sewing machine for the bigger seams, but I did some hand-stitching around the curves and tricky bits. Let me tell you, my fingers were feeling it after a while!

Once I had the basic body sewn up, I flipped it inside out and started stuffing it. This was oddly satisfying. It’s like watching your creation slowly come to life. I made sure to stuff him nice and firm, so he wouldn’t be all floppy.
Adding Leo’s Face
The mask was a separate piece, which I sewed and stuffed lightly before attaching it to the head. For the eyes, I cut out some simple white ovals from felt and glued them on. Then I added small black circles for the pupils. And bam! Leo’s face was staring back at me.
It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of my little homemade Leo plush. He’s got a few wonky seams and his mask is a little lopsided, but he’s got character! Now he sits proudly on my shelf, a reminder that even a regular dude like me can create something cool with a little effort and a whole lot of stuffing. I am just glad that I took the time and effort to make this cute thing.
