Alright, so you wanna know about this Libra thing, right? And which Greek god is mixed up with it? Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t as simple as plantin’ corn, but I’ll try to make it easy for ya.
The Scales and Lady Justice
They say Libra, that’s the seventh sign in that there zodiac thingy, the one with the scales, is all about balance. Makes sense, I guess. You gotta balance things in life, like how much water to give the crops or how much salt to put in the stew. Too much or too little, and you got trouble. They link it with a god… or a goddess, actually. Themis, they call her. She’s all about justice, makin’ sure things are fair and square. Like when you’re dividin’ up the harvest, everyone gets their fair share. She’s got them scales too, just like Libra, weighin’ things out to be even. They say she’s blindfolded, so she can’t be swayed by who’s rich and who’s poor. Sounds like a good woman to me.
That Love Goddess and Other Folks
Now, some folks, they say Libra ain’t just about Themis. They bring up this other goddess, Aphrodite. She’s all about love and beauty. Guess that makes sense too. Love’s gotta be balanced, right? Too much clingin’, and you’ll smother a fella, too little, and they might wander off. And beauty, well, that’s nice to look at, like a field of sunflowers, but you can’t just stare at the flowers all day, you gotta get to work! They even throw in a whole bunch of other names, Hera, Persephone, and a whole bunch of others I can’t even pronounce. Sounds like a big family reunion to me.

- Aphrodite – Love and beauty, makin’ things pretty and sweet.
- All them other folks – Guess they all got a little somethin’ to do with it, like a big ol’ potluck dinner.
What about that War God?
Now, I heard someone talkin’ about a war god, Ares. Said he was Zeus and Hera’s boy, a real firecracker, I bet. But I don’t see how he fits in with Libra. Libra’s all about balance, and war ain’t balanced at all. It’s just a big ol’ mess, like a chicken coop after a fox got in. So, I reckon we can just set him aside. He’s probably off fightin’ somewhere anyway.
When’s Libra Time?
They say Libra time is when the sun’s sittin’ between September 22 and October 23. That’s harvest time ‘round here. Gotta get the crops in before the frost hits. Maybe that’s why they picked the scales for Libra, weighin’ out the harvest, makin’ sure you got enough to last through the winter. And that Venus planet, they say that’s the boss of Libra. Venus, that’s another name for Aphrodite, right? So, it all kinda circles back around, like a dog chasin’ its tail.
So, who is it really?
Well, if you ask me, it seems like Themis, that justice lady, is the main one tied to Libra. She’s got them scales, she’s all about balance, just like Libra. Aphrodite, well, she’s important too, but I think Themis is the real deal. But, you know, these old stories, they’re like a quilt, all patched together, and different folks see different things in ’em. So, you take what you want from it, and leave the rest. That’s what I always say.
