Okay, so, today I want to talk about “The Wolf” by Leo Carew. I got into it a few days ago and it’s been quite a ride.
First off, I started by just skimming through the online descriptions. It’s all about this prince, Roper, who’s an Anakim, trying to avenge his dad’s death and deal with an invasion from the south. Sounds pretty epic, right? I figured it would be a typical revenge story, but with a cool, historical fantasy vibe.
Diving into the book, I quickly realized it’s set in this made-up version of medieval Britain. Very dark and violent, which I’m totally into. The story kicks off with the armies from the south crossing the Black River, messing up the peace between two different groups of people.
- I read about this big battle on a lightning-struck field. That part was intense! The descriptions were so vivid, I could almost feel the chaos.
- Then, I followed Roper’s journey as he tried to get revenge and protect his kingdom. The book throws in a lot of politics and backstabbing, which kept me guessing.
- I also learned about the world Leo Carew created. It’s called the Black Kingdom, and it’s this cold, harsh place with a ton of history. I really enjoyed the world-building parts.
The whole thing felt like a big, historical fantasy epic. Some people online were comparing Leo Carew to authors like George RR Martin, and I can kinda see why. It’s got that same kind of gritty realism and complex characters.
After finishing the book, I spent some time looking up more about the author. Apparently, “The Wolf” is the first book in the “Under the Northern Sky” series. I definitely plan to check out the rest of the series.
Overall, I was really impressed with “The Wolf.” It’s a solid fantasy read with a lot of action, intrigue, and a well-developed world. If you’re into dark, historical fantasy, you should totally give it a shot. I’m glad I stumbled upon it!
