So, I heard about this place, Union Pier, right? It’s this little town by the lake in Michigan. I figured, why not check it out? It’s not too far from Chicago, so I packed a bag and hit the road.
The drive was pretty chill. Once I got there, I started exploring. Union Pier is small, but it’s got a cool vibe. There are some art galleries, wineries, and orchards around. I’m not a big art person, but I walked into a few galleries. They had some interesting stuff, I guess.
The wineries were more my style. I did some wine tasting and bought a couple of bottles. I’m no wine expert, but it tasted good to me. They told me which was sweet and which was dry, so I grabbed one of each. Later, I picked some fruit at one of the orchards. They had apples and some berries. I got a basket and filled it up. It was kind of fun, actually.
- First thing, I hit up some art galleries.
- Then, I went to a few wineries and did some tasting.
- After that, I went to an orchard and picked some fruit.
Checking out the Food and Coffee
I found a couple of local restaurants and tried them out. The food was decent, nothing too fancy. Just some good old-fashioned cooking. One place had a really nice patio overlooking the lake, so that was a great spot for dinner. I also found some coffee shops. I’m a big coffee drinker, so I had to try them out. One place had a really strong brew, which I liked. Another one had a bunch of fancy lattes. I stuck with my usual black coffee.
I also heard about this boat tour on the Chicago River. It’s about 90 minutes long. I didn’t take the tour. I saw the ad at a local grocery store, but I decided to pass. Just something to consider. I took some photos of the town and the lake. Nothing professional, just some snaps on my phone. I counted three that were pretty good and shared them with my friends online.
I didn’t get a chance to do everything in Union Pier, but I saw a good chunk of it. There’s a place called Harbor Country Adventures, and something called Red Arrow Ride. There’s also Third Coast Paddling and Riverside Rentals. I didn’t check those out, but maybe next time. I was told these places let you rent kayaks, and stuff. I think I would like that, but maybe I will save it for next summer. This time I was in Union Pier for a little bit.

Overall, Union Pier is a nice little getaway. It’s quiet, especially in the summer. It’s not too far from the city, and there’s enough to do to keep you busy for a few days. It wasn’t too expensive to stay for a few days, either. If you’re looking for a chill spot to relax, it’s worth checking out.
