So, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I gotta say, the Omega Constellation Perpetual Calendar really caught my eye recently. I’ve always been into watches, but this one felt different, more special somehow.
I started by digging around online, you know, the usual forums and watch blogs. I wanted to see what other people were saying about it. Turns out, this model is pretty popular among collectors, and there are tons of different versions out there. That got me even more excited, the idea of having so many options to choose from.
Then came the hard part – actually finding one. I checked out some local watch dealers, but no luck. Most of them had the more common Constellation models, but not the Perpetual Calendar. I even tried a few online marketplaces, but I was a bit hesitant to buy such an expensive watch without seeing it in person.
- Looked at local watch dealers
- Browsed online marketplaces
- Read a lot of reviews and forum posts
After a few weeks of searching, I finally stumbled upon a promising lead. There was this small, independent watch shop a few towns over that had a vintage Omega Constellation Perpetual Calendar in stock. I called them up right away, and the guy on the phone was super helpful. He answered all my questions and even sent me some extra pictures of the watch.
The next day, I drove over to the shop to check it out in person. The watch was even more beautiful in real life. It had this classic, understated look that I really love. The dial was clean and easy to read, and the case was in great condition for its age. It uses a movement called Omega 1680, which is apparently some kind of thermo-compensated quartz thingy. Sounds fancy, right?
I spent about an hour at the shop, examining the watch and chatting with the owner. He told me a bit about the history of the Constellation line and how this particular model was pretty rare. I was sold. I negotiated the price a bit, and we finally settled on a number that we were both happy with.

What did I do in the end?
Walking out of the shop with the watch on my wrist was an amazing feeling. It’s like I had finally found a piece of horological history that I could call my own. Now all I need is to find some box and papers for it. I know some people don’t like the little metal banding at the 9 and 3, but I think it looks good. Maybe I will try to find one that doesn’t have them to compare. It is a bit of a hassle to take care of since I didn’t buy it from a pro, but I think it was worth the hassle. I’ve been wearing it every day since, and I still can’t get over how cool it is to have a perpetual calendar on my wrist.
This whole experience has really deepened my appreciation for watches, especially vintage ones. There’s just something special about owning a piece of history that’s been around for decades, and it is still ticking. I know I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for other interesting timepieces in the future. But, for now, I’m more than happy with my Omega Constellation Perpetual Calendar.
