Alright, so, I wanted to try something new and a bit different, so I decided to make myself a Virgo birthstone necklace. It seemed like a fun little project, and I’d never really worked on jewelry before. This would be a nice change of pace.
First, I did some digging around online to see what kind of materials people usually use for these necklaces. A lot of folks go for 925 sterling silver, which sounds fancy, but it’s just a good quality silver. I also saw some that used 14K gold, but that felt a bit too over the top for me. I also wanted to see what stones are commonly used for Virgos. I found that pink sapphire and carnelian are popular choices. It’s all about those birthstones, you know?
After I got a sense of what I needed, I started looking for places to buy the supplies. I checked out a few online shops and read through a bunch of reviews to make sure I wouldn’t get ripped off. This is important step. I ended up ordering some sterling silver chains, a few different clasps, and a couple of small pink sapphire and carnelian stones. They look pretty good, not gonna lie.
Once the package arrived, I laid everything out on my table. I decided to start with a simple design, just a single stone on a chain. I picked out a nice-looking pink sapphire and got to work. It took a bit of fiddling around to get the stone properly set in the little silver holder thingy. I had to figure out which one I should use first.
Next, I attached the clasp to the chain. I am not familiar with these tools. This part was a little tricky because everything is so small, but I managed to get it done without breaking anything, which was a relief. This was the first time I’d done something like this, so I was extra careful.

- Attach the clasp.
- Try on the necklace.
Finally, I put the necklace on, and I gotta say, it looked pretty good! It’s simple, but I like it. I also tried making one with the carnelian stone, and that turned out nice too. This time it took less time to make it. I guess I’m getting the hang of it. Now I have two new necklaces, and I learned something new in the process.
I wore it out a few times, and people actually noticed it and asked where I got it. It’s kinda cool to be able to say, “Oh, I made this.” It’s a neat little conversation starter. Overall, it was a fun little project, and I’m happy with how the necklaces turned out. Maybe I’ll try making some more in the future, who knows? Maybe I can sell them for some beer money!
