I was looking to get rid of some scrap metal I had lying around and I wanted to know how much money I could get for it. I don’t know where to start so, I grabbed my phone and searched online for the price of iron per pound in the USA. That’s where things got a little tricky, though.
First, I checked a few websites that list current scrap metal prices. It seems like iron is one of the most common metals that people recycle. They had prices for all sorts of metals, like brass and aluminum, but I was mainly interested in iron.
Then, I started to look at the price range for iron. Most sites were showing prices per pound or per ton. I saw that the price can change pretty quickly, so I made sure to look at the most up-to-date information.
- I found one website that said the price of iron was around $0.04 per pound or $92 per ton.
- Another site mentioned that iron ore is expected to be around 101.27 USD per metric ton by the end of this quarter.
After that, I tried to figure out what kind of iron I had. I learned that there are different types of iron scrap, like cast iron, and they might have different prices. I sorted through my pile of scrap to see what I had. Most of it looked like regular scrap iron, but I wasn’t totally sure.
My Next Steps
Finally, I decided to call a local scrap yard to get a more accurate quote. I figured they would be able to tell me exactly what type of iron I had and how much they would pay for it. But, to be honest, I haven’t actually called them yet. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. Overall, it was a bit more complicated than I expected, but I learned a lot about scrap iron prices!
I didn’t realize there were so many factors that go into it. I’m kind of bummed I haven’t sold it yet. Oh well. It’s a start, I guess!
